A burrito might have helped...But only with a heaping helping of sour cream and guacamole and a few raw habeneros for the heat that is lacking! I'd be very curious if your second take of the play is very different....Unless this couple of lovers discovers some on-stage chemistry...and that is always possible, I suppose...Thanks for your comment!

Interesting review. I saw the play Sunday night and have been mulling it over all day. Something didn't work for me and I couldn't put my finger on it. I loved the set, enjoyed the youthfulness of the lovers, and appreciated the beautiful and poetic language. But something was missing. I think I agree with Rosey that the passion between the young lovers was not there. They looked beautiful, they spoke the lines well, but the heart was missing from the core. And without that, the tragedy is moves down from the grand scale. I will see the production again later in the season to see if I change my mind (for the record, I did not eat a burrito before attending).

"Animal Crackers" is the best comedy I have seen in the theater in years. Mark Bedards performance is brilliant as well as the supporting cast. Live music on stage, singing, dancing, ad libs all created a wonderful evening in live theater. Scenery by legendary designer Richard Hay and costumes by Shigeru Yaji, music and choreography all added to the magic of a perfectly hilarous and joyful evening. Two hours of forgetting all your troubles.....get your tickets now!

I attended this play last weekend and was profoundly disappointed. I was part of a group including a literature major and an art major, and we have all attended plays at OSF for many years. As always, the acting was superb. No question OSF has only the finest actors in the industry. I have seen Danforth Comins play Coriolanus and he was excellent in that production as well. Frankly, the set was horrible. I understand minimalist, however, this was ridiculous. I kept waiting for them to bring in the props, I kept thinking, there will be a set, but this was worse than a high school theatre! Really, metal and vinyl cafeteria chairs? I have come to expect much more from OSF. I doubt I will attend other plays done by this director. However, to reiterate, the acting was amazing, as always. When I saw that a woman was cast as Caesar, I had my doubts, but Vilma Silva pulls it off very well. If you plan on seeing only one play at OSF this season, skip Caesar but don't miss Measure for Measure. I saw this play the same weekend, it was incredible!!
